1. Travel If a two-week vacation feels like a month or more, it's probably because your typical way of life is repetitive. The same routine; the same commute; the same food. Even seemingly innocuous, healthy activities like yoga and mindfulness can become part of your daily or weekly routine, and repetition shrinks time.

Travel, by definition, brings with it a constant stream of new experiences, each of which must be processed by the brain for the first time. When you learn something new, neural circuits communicate via synapses, and creating these pathways requires more energy and time.

The brain interprets that “longer” time as such, so you perceive your two weeks of vacation as significantly longer than a typical two weeks at home.

I understand that traveling abroad is difficult at the moment due to the pandemic; however, what you should do is try to fill your life with new experiences — explore a little and get out of your comfort zone!

2. Learn a New Language If you are bored, you must have free time. What better way to spend that time than to improve your communication skills? Remember when you said, “I'd love to be able to speak Italian”?

Nothing beats being able to communicate with a foreigner in their native language. It allows you to recognize cultural differences and similarities while also making a new friend.

The added bonus is that your new friend appreciates your effort to speak their language, which demonstrates not only your curiosity but also your respect for them, their country, and culture.

3. Empower Yourself You may think of “boredom” as a state, but it is really just a thought. Consider the thought “I am bored.” It implies that I am bored. So, who or what is it that is boring me? And why would I allow external factors to influence my conscious state?

If you truly want to learn how to cure boredom, you must take responsibility and ownership of your own life.

4. Let Go of Self-Pity “I'm bored.” “This isn't fair.” “Why is this happening to me?” ” How useful are these ideas? How much more beneficial would it be to let them go and instead reinvigorate your life with positive affirmations?

5. Be Creative We were born to be creative. You can do it alone, whether artistically, musically, or literarily. It could be something practical, like gardening or carpentry, or it could be something creative, like writing a business plan for your new venture, but whatever gets your creative juices flowing will help to alleviate boredom and reignite your life.

Rather than being intimidated by the prospect of learning to play a musical instrument, concentrate on the end goal. What do you truly desire?

Take, for example, the guitar. Do you want to learn to play classical music such as “Tales of the Alhambra” or the “Smoke on the Water” riff? There are significant differences between the two, not the least of which is the amount of time it will take you to learn how.

Do-it-yourself learning is fine, but when it comes to music, one size does not fit all, so treat yourself to finding a teacher—online if necessary—who can tailor your lessons to your specific goals. This way, you can avoid learning unnecessary techniques and complicated scales and instead focus on the sound and style that you want to create.

7. Move Endorphins are produced by physical activity and interact with brain receptors to produce positive feelings. Boredom cannot coexist with positive feelings, so this is an excellent way to alleviate it.

You will never be bored when you are enjoying the experience of pushing yourself physically, whether it is bench-pressing your maximum weight, achieving a head-stand, or dancing to your favorite song.
