Everyone has dreams, but not everyone has the power, knowledge, or ability to turn those dreams into reality. All successful people have certain truths and habits, principles that have led to their success. I conducted extensive research on the habits of successful men and women. In this article, I've compiled a comprehensive list of the top ten things that successful people do to achieve their goals. Come on a journey with me as we learn from these great men.
1. They set goals and work hard to achieve them
Setting a goal is one thing; achieving that goal is quite another. Almost everyone sets goals, but only a few have the courage and discipline to see them through. Every year at the start of the year, we all make resolutions about things we want to start or stop doing. Can you say with confidence that you have met 40% of your goals since the beginning of the year? Anthony Robbins is a great example of someone who knows how to stick to his goals. In just one year, this incredible man went from earning $38,000 to $1 Million. H.L. Hunt, the great oil billionaire, once said that there are only two real requirements for success: first, decide exactly what you want, and second, determine the price you will have to pay and resolve to pay that price. If you follow this rule, you will be successful; if you ignore it, you will remain a local champion.

2. They are dependable
Malcolm Gladwell popularized the notion that 10,000 hours of guided practice are required for success. While some scientists may disagree with that principle, I believe it contains more truth than lies. You must be consistent in order to become truly excellent at whatever you do. Take advantage of every opportunity to do what you love and do it well. This is a secret that all successful people are aware of.
3. They always make the best of a bad situation
Horatio G. Spafford had recently lost his son to scarlet fever, and his life savings had been destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. During a trip to Europe in 1873, his wife and four daughters were involved in a tragic ship wreck that killed four of his daughters. Anna, Horatio's wife, sent him a telegram after the incident to inform him of the accident. When Horatio received Anna's telegram, he immediately left Chicago to bring his wife home. As the ship sailed across the Atlantic, the captain summoned Horatio to the bridge. He informed Horatio that they were approaching the location where his daughters drowned. That night, alone in his cabin, Horatio Spafford wrote “It is well with my soul,” one of the greatest hymns of all time. He used adversity to his advantage, and as a result, he is one of the few men of his time who is still remembered today. If you want to be successful, you must be prepared to make the best of any situation because difficult times will undoubtedly arise.
4. They accept personal responsibility for their actions
Nothing ever happens by chance to us. Our lives today are a reflection of our previous choices, and the decisions we make today will shape our future. Chris Gardner's story was told in the 2006 film “The Pursuit of Happiness.” Christopher Paul Gardner grew up in a family plagued by poverty, violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse, and illiteracy. He didn't even know his father, and he was taken away from his mother at a young age, as he spent much of his childhood in foster care. He is now a CEO, philanthropist, investor, motivational speaker, and author. His book, in fact, spent over twenty weeks on the New York Times best seller list and has been translated into over forty languages. You can see that, despite his unfortunate childhood, he did not accept his fate. He took charge of his life and resolved to make a difference. He made do with what he had to get what he desired.
5. They cultivate valuable relationships
Behind every successful Steve Jobs is a Steve Wozniak, and behind every successful Bill Gates is a Paul Allen. You must surround yourself with people who will assist you in achieving your goals; believe me, you cannot do it alone. You will require mentors, partners, employees, a spouse, and so on. Compatibility, experience, similar values, loyalty, and mutual benefit are just a few of the criteria for finding good partners and mentors.
6. They make outlandish sacrifices
A man was born in 1918; he vanished from public view in 1964 after delivering a four-hour speech at his trial, where he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He was imprisoned for 27 years because he refused to compromise his political beliefs. He was released in 1990, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, became South Africa's president in 1994, and has since received over 250 other honors. Nelson Mandela, as you may have guessed, is his name. He made a significant sacrifice for his country, and he finally got what he had wished for for over three decades.
Let me tell you a different story. Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen microbus and Steve Wozniak sold his Hewlett-Packard calculator to raise the $1,350 needed to launch Apple. They each made a significant sacrifice at the time, but it was a small price to pay given that Apple is now worth more than $80 billion. You must make your own sacrifices now so that others can tell your story in the future.
7. They never, ever give up
Donald Trump, the real estate mogul, is now worth more than $2.7 billion, which is impressive given that he was previously indebted to the tune of $900 million. When he lost everything and went bankrupt, the world did not end for him. He actually borrowed more money and tried again and again until he succeeded.
Thomas Edison attempted to make a light bulb over 10,000 times before succeeding. We'd probably still be in the dark if he'd given up. The test of time is the most difficult card that life has to offer you and me. This test will only be passed by those who are resilient and willing to persevere.
8. They take chances
Every successful man or woman takes risks. When we were children, our lives were shaped by society and the people closest to us. For example, your parents most likely told you to go to school, get good grades, and get a good job. Everything our society preaches to us is to be secure, which is why whenever you want to make a big decision in life or do something out of the ordinary, you are scared. The distinction between a success and a failure is that a failure runs away from his fears, whereas successful people run towards them. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” If you do not follow that advice, you will never grow and will be unable to achieve success.
9. They value hard work and discipline
Brian Tracy defined self-discipline as the ability to force yourself to do what you need to do when you need to do it, whether you want to or not. I write every day not because I enjoy it, but because I need to if I want to be a successful writer. You must cultivate this habit because there is no other way to achieve success. Rose Blumkin founded Nebraska Furniture Mart, which Warren Buffet now owns. She worked every day at her store until she was 103, and the only time she took a week off was when she got “work sick.” She understood the value of hard work. To be successful in life, you must find what you enjoy doing and devote yourself to it wholeheartedly. “There is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve with faith, discipline, and selfless devotion,” Muhammad Ali said.
10. They add value
Wealth and attention are drawn to value. Solving a problem is a simple definition of success. Find and solve a problem that your skills, passion, dreams, and potential are programmed to solve. Pizza delivery was born as a result of rising demand for better and faster access to pizza. Businessmen and women needed faster transportation to business meetings all over the world, so the private jet was born. You were created to solve a specific problem; solve that problem, and success will be yours.
All of the points mentioned above are merely principles that will not lead to success unless you decide to make them habits. Nothing can stop you if you make the decision to succeed today.
Be the next successful person to add your to-do list to the list!
Step Siblings: Before we start... I've started coaching the students at my school through Kumon. It's a program that helps people learn material through repetition. In the past, I've helped them with math and reading, but I felt that they could use some help with their English, too. I use the sentence structure from the previous example to help them dissect the sentence and put it back together with small edits. I've found that they are able to understand this easily, especially with the prompt of an example sentence. Read more.

Some people simply believe that's the way it's supposed to be, that that's just how life is. But it doesn't have to be that way. Life isn't a routine, life is a journey.
