Excellent listening is a necessary skill for effective communication. Being able to absorb what others say allows one to respond appropriately. Great communicators do not engage in one-sided conversations because what is the point?
They never try to come up with responses while others are still speaking because they don't want to lose track of what is being said. By hanging on to every word in the conversation, good communicators know exactly what to say when the time comes.
2. They are able to relate to others
People with effective communication skills gain an understanding of their audience by listening intently. They can tailor their message to the specific listeners at hand, whether it is a room full of people, a group of online subscribers, or just one other person.
It is absolutely necessary to have some understanding of your audience, because without it, your words will fall flat. You wouldn't want to praise burgers and pork chops in front of a group of PETA members, would you? Because the messages are clear and all parties feel understood, the understanding benefits all members of the dialogue.

If you're going to get your point across, you're not going to sugarcoat it. A good communicator makes a clear, concise point that cannot be misunderstood. She'll give specific instructions or ask probing questions – she'll leave no room for ambiguity.

8. They Concentrate on Their Interactions
Eliminating distractions from interactions is an important part of communicating well and respectfully. Nobody likes it when the other person starts texting or shoving food in their face in the middle of a conversation. 10. They are aware of nonverbal cues
When conversing face-to-face, body language can be just as important as words. Recognizing frustration, nervousness, or excitement through nonverbal cues such as posture, facial expression, and eye contact allows a great communicator to better understand her audience. As a result, she can better tailor her message to the audience's attitude.
