Admit it: “I hate my job” is one of your favorite phrases. You don't want to despise it. You want nothing more than to work in a job that you enjoy. However, your job makes it impossible. As a result, you must vent in order to survive. When someone cuts you off in traffic or is rude to you in a store, you feel compelled to tell someone just to make yourself feel better and get over the shock.
The same can be said for your work experience. The difference is that you must return to work day after day, subjecting yourself to the same horror. However, you may not feel as if you have a choice. Because everyone else seems to be having the same problem, it starts to feel normal, even though it's bad – really bad. In fact, you may believe that your job is killing you, and you may be correct.
- Here are ten reasons why nearly everyone you know despises their job:
- You are not permitted to be inventive
- Nobody pays attention to you
- You don't care for the people
- You despise your boss
- You dislike your job
- Your schedule is not adaptable
- You don't believe you're making much of an impact
- It doesn't bring out your true talents or who you are
- It's out of your comfort zone – and not in a good way
- You don't agree with the company's policies
- Do these ring true?

Basically, if you're like most people, you don't like going to work, or you despise going to work. You are a rare exception if you enjoy your job. But why is this taking place? Why does everyone seem to despise their jobs? Are we all just slackers? No. Other forces are at work.
Here are ten reasons why nearly everyone you know despises their job:
You are not permitted to be inventive
Your job has a lot of red tape and requirements that you must follow. Sure, there are times when rules and standards are effective. However, there are times when new ways of thinking would vastly improve things. The issue is that no one at your workplace seems to know the difference. You work with mindless drones who blindly follow protocol even when it makes no sense.
Nobody pays attention to you
You're the first to admit that you don't always get it right. But there are times when you are, and if anyone was listening, they would notice. It would be preferable if you weren't invisible.
You don't care for the people
You're a breeze to get along with. But what about the people you work with? It's unclear where they found them. Needless to say, your personalities clash, and you'd love to work with people who think more like you.
You despise your boss
You have no idea how your boss got the job. Either she is the Devil in Prada, or she is incapable of making a decision to save the entire Titanic. You want to strangle her in either case, but you can't (and avoid a homicide charge).
You dislike your job
What are you talking about? Oh, I'm sorry, I dozed off there…
Your schedule is not adaptable
Forget about your children's soccer matches. You'd be lucky to get there if your child was about to be born. Okay, maybe your work isn't all that bad. (If it is, please email me and I will feel sorry for you.) But seriously, have these people ever heard of the concept of work/life balance?
You don't believe you're making much of an impact
If you don't feel like you cared about what you did at the end of a long, hard workday. You're probably wondering what the point was. It's difficult to find the motivation to get up and do it all over again.
It doesn't bring out your true talents or who you are
Do you ever have the feeling that you could dress up a random stranger and send them in to do your job and no one would notice? If you feel completely interchangeable, your job is probably disconnected from the parts of you that make you YOU. What a dream it would be to have a job that required you every day.
It's out of your comfort zone – and not in a good way
Remember standing in front of the class, sick to your stomach because you didn't know the answers? If that's how your job feels every day, you probably despise it. You may have landed in a job for which you are unprepared or under-qualified. If you feel like a fraud, it's not because you're not good at anything; it's because this job isn't a good fit for you.
You don't agree with the company's policies
Perhaps you don't agree with what your company stands for or how it conducts business. Perhaps you'd feel more at ease in a smaller company or one with more flexible or family-friendly policies. If your company's values and your own do not align, you may feel compelled to compromise yourself in ways that do not sit well with you.
Do these ring true?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you are not alone. That's a bad thing. That's not good for you. However, it is also detrimental to all of us in terms of economic costs and lost productivity. However, there is some good news. Even if the majority of people dislike their jobs, you do not have to be one of them. You should think about making a change. You can find a better job next time if you know the top ten things that will make you despise your job.
