What is a goal? A goal is something that one desires to accomplish. Goals can be personal or on a grander scale (e.g. world peace). A goal can be achieved through hard work and persistence.
What is a dream? A dream is something that a person wishes to accomplish. A successful person is often said to have accomplished his or her dream. Dreaming is a key ingredient to setting a goal.

Goals can be defined in a variety of ways; they can be defined as the desired outcomes for which you have plans and commitment. What makes goals spectacular is that the things you want to achieve are clearly defined, along with a timeframe for completion.
What Exactly Are Dreams?
Dreams are our thoughts, imaginations, and aspirations about what we want to attain, experience, or achieve. Dreams can be spontaneous, or they can be the result of long-held desires. Our dreams are frequently shaped and influenced by what we see around us on a daily basis, what we hear or read about, or what people we admire do.
Goals and Dreams: What's the Difference?
There's no need to mix up goals and dreams when you understand their distinctions and how they can complement one another to promote success. The following are some insightful thoughts on goals and dreams.
Plans and Action vs. Thoughts and Imagination

You have to set a specific and measurable time to accomplish your goals. And most important of all, the goals you set have to be relevant to your life and your interests.
Goals Come Second to Dreams
It is correct to state that there is no goal without a dream. Dreams must come first because goals are born from dreams. You must cultivate a desire in your mind until it becomes a burning desire that you are willing to pursue. That is when they can be transformed into objectives.
Dreams That Are Captured Become Goals
Dreams can exist in the absence of goals. Dreams can go on indefinitely and only end in fantasy. When they are captured, however, they can become actionable goals that can, in fact, materialize.
A Yoruba proverb goes, “S/he who finds money in a dream and gets excited should be told to focus on working hard so that he/she does not become a victim of poverty.” While the proverb is mostly about night dreams, it can also be applied to imaginative dreaming.
To realize your dream, it must first be captured and transformed into goals; then, you must devise a goals strategy and follow it up with hard work.
Goals Require Actions
Goals are the actions you plan to take after you've determined that your dream is truly worthwhile. These steps will outline what you should do and how to do it in order to achieve your goal.
Dreams Are Free, But Goals Cost Money
Dreams are free of charge. You are free to dream as many times as you want in a day. Goals, on the other hand, are not like that. When setting goals, you must consider whether they are attainable or not. Because of the costs (sacrifices) associated with achieving your goals, there is a limit to how many goals you can set per time.
Setting goals is one of the most important things you can do for your future. It can help you figure out what you want to do next and can motivate you to do better. The problem is, goals can be pretty expensive. Researcher, Dr. Gail Matthews, has determined that you can only have three goals at a time to maximize your success. So, what do you do with all the other goals you had? You put them on your “someday” or “bucket list” and save them for later.
Lack of Limits vs. Defined Goals
Dreams have no structures, and there are no limits to how far you can dream. However, objectives must be defined. They must be well-defined, with measurable goals and a timetable.
Creating Change vs. Being Inspired
You can dream to motivate yourself and aspire to a better future, but if you want to see real change, you must be specific about what you want and how you intend to achieve it. Goals are the commitments made to effect change.

Make A List Of Your Goals
Make a note of your dreams by writing them down. This will make them more clear. You don't have to be frugal when writing them down. Simply write them down as they come to you.
2. Divide Your Dream Into Short-Term And Long-Term Objectives
You may not be able to pursue your dream in its raw form, which is why goals are necessary. You should have a plan and structure in place for achieving your dream, which will include setting both short-term and long-term goals to get you on the right track.
Short-term goals are those that you set to achieve within the next three months or less than a year. Long-term goals can take anywhere from one to three years to achieve. Your short-term goals are actually stepping stones to achieving your long-term goals, which will eventually lead you to your dream.
We've all had a dream or something we wanted to do at one point or another. Some of us try to pursue that dream and some of us are able to achieve it. If that's the case, great! If not, it might be because you didn't set goals or have a structured plan that guides you to that end goal.
When you set a goal, you give your life a sense of purpose and it helps you plan a clear course of action to achieve that goal. Your goals should be both long-term and short-term. 3. Make Your Objectives Smart
A goal statement differs from a dream statement in that goals should be SMART. when they are written. This means that each goal you set in pursuit of your dream must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant/Realistic, and Time-Sensitive.
4. Subdivide Each Goal Into Milestones
Aside from setting smart goals, you should also divide each one into milestones. Milestones are small steps (miniature goals) that can be completed in a short period of time. When you accomplish these smaller goals, it keeps you motivated to keep working toward your big dream without becoming overwhelmed. You can focus on the milestones while keeping your eyes on the big picture.
Dreams can be created by anyone in order to create a picture of their own future. If you are unhappy with your current situation, all you have to do is fantasize. If you have realized your dreams, it is time to dream again or to inspire others to do so.
You can accomplish anything your mind can conjure up if you take the time to turn it into a goal. Make your dreams big, but set smaller goals to help you get closer to realizing your big dream.
