How to Fall in Love With Yourself (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

“I adore myself.” That may sound ridiculous (and I doubt anyone would ever say it aloud), but self-love isn't just for egomaniacs. If you don't love yourself, it's difficult to find the confidence to succeed (or even the courage to begin). Continue reading if you're ready to swoon over your hot self.

1. Quit Criticizing Yourself

Would you tell another person what you think about yourself? If not, you owe it to yourself to apologize. How can you love someone who thinks such negative things about you? Even if you did make a mistake, move on. Big blunder that is mostly irrelevant? Laugh it off. Is this a serious blunder with long-term consequences? Take what you can from it. What matters is that you let go of your baggage and move on.

2. Be optimistic

Concentrate on your strong points (instead of your weaknesses). Leap out of bed (rather than crawl out of it). Consider each day to be a new opportunity (not the same old story).

3. Give Thanks

Consider all of the things for which you should be grateful. Make a list of the people, places, things, and activities that make you the happiest. Slow down and you'll realize you have a lot to be thankful for.

4. Develop and Learn

Increasing your knowledge and skills will help you develop a healthy swagger and confidence in your abilities.

5. Accept Your Flaws, Quirks, and Strangeness

I can't ride a bike, I can only cook three things (spaghetti/omelets/sandwiches), and I have an irrational fear of bees (which is so bad that I once drove my car into a stop sign after one flew into an open window on a summer day). And guess what? I wouldn't change a thing. Be confident in yourself, no matter how “weird” (interesting and one-of-a-kind) you are.

6. Make the Most of Your Assets

Consider your top three life accomplishments. I don't care if they're big or small. It could be graduation from college, a great job, your first business client, winning an award, losing weight, or anything else. Now, write down the skills you used to complete those three tasks. Are there any common threads that led to success? If this is the case, the road to greater success is right in front of you. If you want to boost your self-esteem, focus on the strengths that have been proven to work and ignore your weaknesses.

7. No More Parallels

Forget the celebrities you compare your body to, the relationships you compare it to, and the people you are obsessed with pleasing. Life is not a contest. The only goal you have is to become a better version of yourself.

8. Feel at ease in your own skin

Build a body that makes you feel strong and confident, but let go of any preconceived notions about what you “should look like.” You are the only one who can decide what “hot” and “sexy” mean.

9. Take a break

Why are you always in a rush? It is acceptable (and even necessary) to unwind. Our brains can only handle so much information. Quiet your mind, turn off all distractions, prepare a bubble bath, and curl up with a good book. You deserved it.

10. Give yourself a pat on the back

We are quick to criticize ourselves when we make mistakes, but we never seem to celebrate ourselves when we succeed. Success does not come in the form of a life-changing Big Victory; rather, the road to success is typically littered with a slew of small victories. Be grateful for every victory, no matter how minor you believe it is, because it will boost your confidence and help you keep moving forward.

11. Take Good Care of Yourself

Everything you eat affects your mood and energy levels. Take an honest look at what you're eating if you're feeling depressed and exhausted. Everyone reacts differently to different foods, but with trial and error, you can find the fuel that produces the best results.

12. Dancing

Parties with music are always a good idea. Who says you have to have a partner? Turn on some 80s music or show tunes and get moving. You may feel silly, and you may even laugh at yourself, but it will be enjoyable (and you know it).

13. Have Some Fun

Life should not be a never-ending to-do list. What causes you to be ecstatic and happy? Make more of that. And, before you say you “don't have time,” keep in mind that there is no such thing as “enough time in the day.” However, there is a concept known as priorities, and making time for fun is a priority if you want to be happy.

14. Pay Close Attention

When was the last time you looked up at the full moon and shining stars in the dark sky? What about the prehistoric dinosaur-sized trees in your backyard? Have you recently picked a flower in the park (for nasal pleasure or hair decoration)? You are surrounded by lovely things.

15. Make a happy face

Smile because you are deserving of love and happiness and are free to have as much as your heart desires (and you'll find it difficult to be sad with that cute grin plastered on your face).

Can you truly say you adore yourself? If you've ever struggled with having a positive self-image and discovered solutions that worked for you, we'd love to hear about it!
