How to Get Hyper (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

It's one of the most common complaints on the planet, and it manifests itself in a variety of ways:

“I just sat, you get up.”
“I'm too tired, achy, and frazzled.”
“Can't a person take 5-minutes to relax?”
“I'm exhausted.”
“I'm feeling a little… run-down, weak, and sluggish.”
While there could be other factors…

All of these excuses revolve around a lack of energy.
Caffeine and sugar-laden energy drinks have become the go-to fix for gamers and students over the last ten years, owing largely to the ability to stay awake for insane hours and operate at hyper-speed. But what about non-gaming adults?

How do you get a boost of energy without relying on stimulants?
Here are five techniques and activities that have been shown to not only add a lot of energy to your day, but also to improve, rather than detract from, your overall health:

Fire breath: At the heart of yoga is a set of breathing techniques designed to have very specific and, often, immediate energetic effects on the body. And, whether you believe in the existence of a subtle energy in the body (called Prana), as yogis do, or prefer to attribute the stimulating effect to the activation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, these techniques work. The Breath Of Fire is a yogic breathing technique that not only cleanses, but also heats and energizes your body. At its core, it is a series of quick, panting-like exhales. Exercise. This may seem counter-intuitive, but getting active is one of the best ways to feel more energetic when you're running low on energy. Exercise causes physiological changes in your body that increase blood flow and energy substrates to your brain and skeletal muscles, improving alertness and overall energy availability.
Meditate. Stress and anxiety are two things that sap your energy quickly. Unfortunately, many of us work in environments that foster stress and anxiety on a daily basis. If you aren't ready to make larger-scale changes in the circumstances that foster this stress, developing a daily meditation practice is an excellent antidote. It releases a significant amount of mental energy and activates the relaxation response, which rebalances both your nervous and endocrine systems. The net result is increased, long-lasting energy as well as a deeper sense of calm.
Improve your sleeping habits. This one is pretty self-explanatory. When you sleep, your body does a lot of restorative work. This includes the repair of damaged tissue as well as the replenishment of energy stores. So it stands to reason that if you are chronically sleep-deprived, you will be less rested, depleted, and energized. This is a grossly oversimplified description of physiological processes, but the reality is that we only need to look to our own experience to understand the impact of a killer 20-minute power nap on your energy. Alternatively, if you have the time, speed it up to complete a full sleep cycle (about 90-minutes). Just don't nap for too long or you'll fall into sleep cycles that, when awoken, can leave you feeling even more groggy, tired, and irritable.
Listen to upbeat music. Here's one more that, once again, is supported by intuition. Great music not only gives you a near-magical second wind or extra kick when you're exercising, but it also improves your mood and energy during everyday tasks. In fact, some studies have found that workers who listen to great classical music have higher levels of productivity and creativity.
While the energetic benefits of meditation take time to manifest, the other techniques provide immediate benefits without the need to ingest a barrel-full of stimulants, which almost always result in an inevitable rebound crash. So, the next time you're feeling a little low on energy, give one of our Top 5 a try and you'll feel energized without the negative side effects of a substance-driven boost.
