Stop being so concerned with how you feel. The way you feel is the way you feel. It will pass quickly. What you're thinking is the same as what you're thinking. It, too, will vanish. Tell yourself that whatever you feel is what you feel, and whatever you think is what you think. It makes no sense to be proud or ashamed of yourself if you can't stop yourself from thinking or prevent emotions from arising in your mind. They were not caused by you. Only your actions are under your direct control. They are the only legitimate source of pleasure or shame.
Let go of your worries. It frequently makes matters worse. The more you dwell on something negative, the more likely it is to occur. When you're on high alert for the first sign of trouble, you'll almost certainly find something close enough to convince yourself it's arrived.
Reduce your internal life commentary. Stop telling yourself you're unhappy if you want to be happy. People are constantly telling themselves how they feel, what they are thinking, how others perceive them, and what this or that event truly means. The majority of it is made up of fantasy. The rest is a mixture of lies and misunderstandings. You have only a hazy understanding of how others perceive you. Usually, they aren't any more knowledgeable about the subject, and they care far less about it than you do. You have no idea what this or that event truly means. Whatever you tell yourself will be fictitious.

Pay no attention to your inner critic. It is pointless to judge yourself. It is illogical to pass judgment on others. Whatever you accomplish, someone else will always outperform you. Others are worse than you, no matter how bad you are. How can you place yourself correctly between them if you can't tell what's best or worst? Judging others is pointless because you cannot know all of the facts, cannot develop a reliable or objective scale, have no way of knowing whether your criteria match anyone else's, and can only have a limited and extremely partial view of the other person. Who cares about your opinion in the first place?

Stop feeling bad about yourself. Guilt has no effect. It may give you the impression that you are accepting responsibility, but it will not result in anything new in your life. If you feel guilty about something you've done, either make amends or accept your mistake and try not to repeat it. Then just let it go. Consult a psychiatrist if you are feeling guilty about what someone else did. That is completely insane.

Stop caring what the rest of the world thinks of you. You can't be bothered by obnoxious people. You cannot be happy because of nice people. Events and people are simply that: events and people. They are unable to create anything for you. That is something you must do for yourself. Whatever emotions arise as a result of external events, they have no power over you until you pick them up and decide to act on them. Besides, most people are far too preoccupied with themselves (and are concerned about what you are thinking and saying about them) to be concerned about you.

Stop keeping track of things. Numbers are simply that: numbers. They don't have any mystical abilities. The fact that something is expressed as a number, a ratio, or any other numerical pattern does not imply that it is correct. Many carefully calculated business indicators are irrelevant, gibberish, nonsensical, or simply incorrect. Ignore it if you don't understand it or if it's telling you something strange. There is nothing scientific about relying on erroneous data. Neither is there anything useful about charting your life by numbers, which were silly to begin with.

Don't be concerned if your life and career aren't going exactly as planned. The more you stick to a plan, the faster you will go wrong. The world is constantly changing. Even if you carefully analyzed the situation when making the plan, if it is more than a few days old, things will have changed. They will be very different after a month. After a year, almost nothing will be the same as it was when you began. Planning is only useful as a discipline to force people to consider what they know and don't know. Once you've begun, toss the plan aside and focus on the present.

Don't allow others to use you to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions. To hold yourself responsible for someone else's success and happiness denigrates them and demonstrates that you've lost your mind. It's their entire existence. They must go through it. You can't do it for them, and you can't stop them if they're determined to screw it up. A supervisor's job is to assist and supervise. Only control freaks and people with less severe mental disabilities do not understand this.

Don't be concerned about your personality. You really don't have one. Personality, like ego, is a concept that your mind creates. It does not exist in reality. Personality is a term that refers to the overall impression that you convey through your words and actions. Don't be concerned if your personality isn't appealing today. You can always change it if you give yourself permission to do so. What fixes someone's personality in one place is a concerted effort on their part—usually by telling themselves they're this or that kind of person and acting on what they say. If you don't like the way you are, change yourself. You are the only one who is impeding your progress.

It's all right, you can finally admit it. You haven't seen the inside of the gym in two months. Sickness, family crises, work overtime, and school papers that needed to be completed all kept you from exercising. The question now is, how do you start over?

When you make exercise a habit, it becomes second nature. You simply go to the gym; there is no use of force. However, after taking a month, two months, or even a year off, it can be difficult to get back into the swing of things. Here are some pointers to help you get back on the treadmill after you've fallen off.

Don't Break the Habit – The simplest way to keep going is simply to not stop. Avoid taking long breaks from exercise because it will be difficult to re-establish the habit. For some, this advice may come a little too late. But if you have a regular exercise routine, don't abandon it at the first sign of trouble.

Showing Up Is Rewarded – Woody Allen once said, “Half of life is showing up.” I would argue that making the effort to get there is 90% of the battle. Later, you can worry about your weight, the number of laps you run, or the amount of weight you can bench press.

Commit for Thirty Days – Commit to going every day (even if it's only for 20 minutes) for one month. This will help to establish the exercise habit. By making a commitment, you relieve yourself of the stress of deciding whether or not to go.

Make it Fun – If you don't enjoy yourself at the gym, it will be difficult to maintain the habit. There are thousands of ways to move and exercise your body, so don't give up if you've decided that lifting weights or doing crunches isn't for you. Many large fitness centers will have a variety of programs to suit your preferences.

Schedule Exercise Time During Quiet Hours – Don't schedule exercise time when it will be easily pushed aside by something more important. It's often a good idea to put it right after work or first thing in the morning. If work demands begin to pile up, lunch-hour workouts may become too easy to forego.

Get a Friend – Invite a friend to join you. Exercising with a social component can increase your commitment to the habit.

X Your Calendar – One of my friends has a habit of drawing a red “X” through any day on the calendar when he goes to the gym. The advantage of this is that it quickly shows how long it has been since you last went to the gym. Keeping a consistent number of Xs on your calendar is a simple way to motivate yourself.

Enjoyment Comes Before Effort – When you finish a workout, ask yourself what parts you liked and what parts you didn't like. As a general rule, the enjoyable aspects of your workout will be completed, while the rest will be avoided. By concentrating on how to make workouts more enjoyable, you can ensure that you will continue to visit the gym.

Make a Ritual Out of It – Your workout routine should become so ingrained that it becomes a ritual. This means that the time of day, location, or cue automatically prompts you to grab your bag and leave. It will be more difficult to benefit from the momentum of a ritual if your workout times are completely random.

Stress Management – What do you do when you are stressed? It's very likely that it's not running. Exercise, on the other hand, can be a great way to relieve stress by releasing endorphins, which will improve your mood. When you're feeling stressed or tired, try doing an exercise you enjoy. When stress relief is linked to exercise, it is simple to re-establish the habit even after a break.

Fitness Testing – Weight isn't always the best metric to keep track of. Increases in muscle can compensate for decreases in fat, so the scale does not shift even if your body does. However, improving one's fitness is a great way to stay motivated. Simple numbers like the number of push-ups, sit-ups, or the speed at which you can run can help you see how the exercise is making you stronger and faster.

Habits First, Equipment Later – Expensive equipment does not create an exercise habit. Despite this, some people believe that purchasing a $1,000 machine will compensate for their inactivity. It will not. Begin by developing an exercise habit; only then should you consider purchasing a personal gym.
Isolate Your Weakness – If you frequently fall off the exercise wagon, figure out why. Do you dislike working out? Is it a matter of time? Is it embarrassing to be self-conscious at the gym? Is it due to a lack of fitness knowledge? You can take steps to improve the situation as soon as you identify your weakness.
Begin Small – Running fifteen miles as your first workout is not a good way to establish a habit. Work at a lower capacity for the first few weeks to establish the habit. Otherwise, you risk scaring yourself after a strenuous workout.
Go for You, Not for Others – Going to the gym solely for the purpose of looking good is akin to starting a business solely for the purpose of making money. The effort is insufficient to justify the results. But if you go to the gym to push yourself, gain energy and have a good time, then you can keep going even when results are slow.
