I Feel Broken (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

I've been broken several times in my life. Life has dealt me blows that have knocked me to the ground. For months, I've been consumed by pain and feelings of hopelessness and despair. I wondered if I'd ever get through this, or if I'd ever have a life where I felt happy and safe. My life gradually improved and I became stronger over time.

Looking back, I realize that these events, though painful at the time, were the impetus for me to change my life. Now I spend my days doing what I enjoy – writing, speaking, and coaching.

The only way for us to live our lives to the fullest is to overcome the challenges that life throws at us. We must go through life's pain, betrayal, adversity, feelings of hopelessness, and despair in order to learn about ourselves.

There is no other way for us to learn to be resilient, courageous, hopeful, and optimistic about our lives and futures.

Even if we don't like it, everyone feels broken at some point in their lives. When we are in this state of despair, we often don't know what to do, and we end up living our lives through our fear, regret, pain, disillusionment, and sadness. This is not how we are supposed to live our lives.

When you're feeling broken on the inside, remember these seven things. They'll help you find your courage and build your resilience so you can step out and embrace the joy of living a life you love.

1. Keep in mind to accept and anticipate change

“The species that survives is not the most intelligent; it is not the strongest; but the species that survives is the one that is best able to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself.” — Leon C. Megginson, M.D.

In today's world of constant change, it's difficult to stay true to yourself while dealing with the complexities and unpredictability of life. Change is the one constant in our lives today.

Rather than fighting the inevitability of change, learn to accept it. Accept change and know that by doing so, your life will only improve.Resisting change feeds the negative energy that keeps you broken and discouraged in life.

2. Remember to Value Your Freedom of Choice

“Today, I make the decision to live. Every morning when I wake up, I have the option of choosing joy, happiness, negativity, or pain… To feel the freedom that comes with the ability to continue making mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny but to embrace my humanity.” — Aucion, Kevyn

  • Using your power of choice will allow you to shift your perspective on life from one of dormancy to one of flourishing with joy and hope.
  • Using your power of choice strengthens and empowers your ability to act and make decisions.
  • Your power of choice is a gift that you have within you that, if used, will change your life.

3. Don't Forget to Ask for Help

“Asking for assistance does not imply that we are weak or inept. It usually denotes a high level of honesty and intelligence.” Anne Wilson Schaef is a writer from the United States.

Asking for assistance is not a sign of weakness. When we are broken on the inside, we want to hide from the world. Sometimes it's because we're embarrassed, or we're afraid that others won't understand what we're going through.

  • Others' help, advice, and encouragement enable us to overcome adversity and solve problems in our lives.
  • The energy and wisdom of our friends, family, and supporters fuels our courage and desire to take action to improve our lives.

4. Always Remember to Be Present

“Yesterday has passed. Tomorrow has not yet arrived. We only have today. Let us get started.” Mother Theresa

How you feel about your life is influenced by your thoughts. When your life feels broken, your negative thoughts will dictate your feelings of sadness, disillusionment, and unhappiness. When you feel joy and happiness, your positive thoughts of hope and self-belief will help you feel even more of them.

The key to managing your negative thoughts is to try to distance yourself from them and observe them rather than reacting to them automatically.

Identify the thoughts that will entice you and cause confusion and inertia in you. Accept that these thoughts do not serve you well and strive for greater control over them.

Rather than focusing on the content of your thoughts, label the type of thought you are having. Observe your thoughts, and if you notice one that is judging (whether the situation is good or bad), label it “judging.”

Label a thought “criticizing” if you are criticizing yourself for doing something wrong. Then consider how much time you want to spend criticizing and blaming yourself. My recommendation is that you spend no time on this activity.

5. Remind yourself to focus on what makes you happy

“Find a place within yourself where there is joy, and the joy will burn away the pain.” — Joe Campbell

When you are experiencing despair, frustration, and hopelessness, it is easy to lose sight of the positive aspects of your life. In fact, if you are consumed by negativity, you will begin to believe that your life is devoid of any good.

Focusing on what is good and joyful in your life is an important step toward changing your life. The more you concentrate on the positive aspects of your life, the more optimistic you will become.

Positivity and hope are contagious, and the more you celebrate them, the happier you will be with your life. Here are some ideas to get you started: You Should Be Thankful For These 32 Things

6. Remind yourself to be optimistic about the future

“The best thing about the future is that it arrives one day at a time.” — President Abraham Lincoln

It is understandable that when you are feeling broken in life, you may become consumed by the fear that this is how your life will always be. It's difficult to be optimistic about the future when you're in so much pain and heartache. Your pain and heartache, on the other hand, will not heal you, and deep down inside, you want to be healed – you just don't know how.

When I felt broken in my life, the one thing that helped me on my healing journey was to try to stay hopeful about my future. It was critical for me to maintain perspective on the fact that what was going on in my life at the time was not going to be a part of my future life. That sliver of hope for my future was enough for me to gradually begin to heal — step by step.

7. Remind yourself that life is a mystery

“Life's mystery is not a problem to be solved; it is a reality to be lived.” — Jaap Johannes Leeuw

Life is a funny thing, and the more we fight and resist it, the more difficult it is to live. Accepting and embracing life's mystery allows us to heal and see our pain as just one of many chapters in our lives.

Life frequently throws us curve balls. It puts us to the test and challenges us. We survive and thrive in life by embracing challenges that allow us to grow and live courageous and resilient lives.

When we are broken on the inside, we must remember that this is part of our journey and that there is no way out of the pain. We just have to get through the pain and despair.

Take a deep breath and remember that life is a mystery instead of fighting and questioning life and blaming yourself for how you feel. Do not let moments of despair and unhappiness in your life serve as the foundation for how you will live your life in the future.

Your role in life is to embrace it all – the good, bad, and ugly – and to live it to the fullest – so go live it!

“Ester inquired as to why people are depressed. “That's easy,” the old man says. “They are the captives of their own personal history. Everyone believes that the most important goal in life is to stick to a plan. They never inquire as to whether the plan was devised by them or by someone else. They amass experiences, memories, objects, and other people's ideas, and it becomes too much for them to bear. And it is because of this that they forget their dreams.” – Paul Coelho, author of The Zahir.
