Letting Go Is Hard (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

Bereaved people are frequently told that “time will heal all of their wounds.” With this belief or common assumption, many people believe that time will help them overcome the anguish, anger, sadness, guilt, and fear that they may be experiencing in certain difficult life situations. Unfortunately for us, time does not heal all wounds, and many people still find it torturous many years after experiencing some tragic events. The pain may lessen with time, but it is still difficult for many people to let go and move on from painful or difficult situations in life.

Although time is not a healer, it can be used effectively for healing purposes. According to Dr. Phil, “time does not change us. What we do with that time is what transforms us.” This means that we can do something to help ourselves heal faster. This means that when life knocks us down, rather than staying there, we must make an effort to get back up. Our attitude determines whether we let that situation make or break us! According to Steve Maraboli in Life, the Truth, and Being Free, “incredible change occurs in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over rather than craving control over what you don't.” When it's difficult to let go and you're feeling lost, here are 21 things you can do to live a happier and more fulfilling life.

1. Persuade yourself to let go and move on

To let go, you must first convince yourself that it is time to move on. It is up to you to convince yourself that some people are a part of your history but not your destiny. It also necessitates deciding that if you want to move forward, you must let go.

2. Spend time with friends or family

In situations where it is difficult to let go and move on, your friends and family can be a great source of comfort and solace. You can go out and talk and share your feelings with people who care about you and truly listen to you, and they will give you a completely new and different perspective on things.

3. Acquire a new skill

Another thing you can do is broaden your skill set. You will have less time to dwell on your troubling experience and will be able to forget it while engaged in the learning process. You will also realize that there are always new things to learn, new ways to grow, new perspectives to explore, and new opportunities just around the corner. This will aid in keeping you motivated in life.

4. Participate in a physical activity

Exercise or physical activity in any form has been shown to help with stress relief. When it's difficult to let go, any form of exercise, from aerobics to yoga, can help. This is due to the fact that it helps to boost the brain's feel-good neurotransmitters known as endorphins, which increases self-confidence, improves mood, and reduces symptoms associated with anxiety and mild depression.

5. Arrange a Trip

When it comes to letting go, a change of atmosphere or environment can work wonders. Restricting yourself will not help you make things right. Instead, for a week or a month, get away from it all and treat yourself to a change of scenery.

6. Go on new adventures and meet new people

Meeting new people and going out is one of the best ways to move on and let go. The world has a lot to offer, and there are always new people to be invited into your life. Join a networking group, participate in community activities, or join a special interest group to meet new people. The introduction of new and positive people into your life will aid in your recovery from the toxicity of your previous experience.

7. Let it all out

According to a study conducted by Dr. William Frey II, PH.D., biochemist at the Ramsey Medical Center in Minneapolis, crying can be beneficial in flushing out negative chemicals that accumulate in your body as a result of stress. As a result, crying out can be extremely beneficial when it is difficult to let go. However, once you've cried, wipe your tears away, stand up, dust yourself off, and remind yourself that life does not end here. In such a case, Steve Maraboli advises, “Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move on.” Allow your tears to fertilize the seeds of your future happiness.”

8. Forgiveness

When it comes to letting go and moving on, forgiveness is one of the most important things to do. Forgiving others, forgiving yourself, and forgiving the Universe are all important steps toward allowing yourself the space and freedom to move forward. According to Steve Maraboli, “you cannot move forward unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you recognize that the situation is over.”

9. Recognize the situation

Accepting things for what they are can be the key to opening the door to happiness. If you're stuck in a destructive past, instead of fighting to change things, accept what happened and what you can't change, and trust me, you'll find more peace. The sooner you accept it, the sooner it will stop hurting you and the sooner you will be able to take control of your life and make it better.

10. Use a creative outlet to express your emotions

Express or release your emotions through a creative outlet, such as blogging, painting, or any other form of art. Use your imagination to combat the negative emotions that are residing within you. Shelley Carson's book Your Creative Brain can show you how to transform negative emotions through creative work.

11. Perform some volunteer work

Volunteering has been shown to be beneficial in preventing depression and increasing happiness and self-confidence. As a result, when it is difficult to divert your attention away from painful memories, volunteer work can aid in bringing about a positive change in your mental state. Volunteering can get you out of the house and make you more socially connected. In addition, spending time in service to others will provide you with a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.

12. Seek the company of others who have gone through similar experiences

Seeking the company of those who may understand what you are going through is also beneficial in such situations. This could take the form of talking to friends or people around you who have gone through something similar, or it could take the form of reading other people's stories and appreciating their wisdom. This could assist you in realizing that you are not alone. You can also adopt the coping strategies that those people used in a similar situation, making it easier to move on in life.

13. Wear a rubber band around your wrist and flick it whenever you recall the unpleasant experience.

This may sound strange, but it really helps to remind you that persistent negativity can be harmful to your mind and body, and that you must let go and move forward.

14. Throw it away or let it go metaphorically

Write down your stressors on paper and toss it in the trash can or the fireplace. This will assist you in letting go of the stress associated with the event or unpleasant experience that you have had.

15. Set aside time each day to pamper yourself

Include activities that you find soothing and calming in your daily schedule to help yourself heal. You can, for example, listen to music, read a favorite book, go for a walk in nature, photograph the world around you, get a massage, or attend a yoga class. Avoid using drugs, alcohol, or food to cope with or relieve your pain. Instead, look for healthier and more positive ways to deal with the situation.

16. Keep a journal of your upsetting experiences

Journaling is a great way to gain insights into your feelings and thoughts that are holding you back from moving forward. It allows psychologists to become aware of and understand the reasons why things happened the way they did. Keeping a journal or writing about your experiences is thus regarded as a good way to move on because it allows you to see your feelings in black and white, allowing them to be analyzed, changed, or even destroyed.

17. Pray or meditate on 17th

Both meditation and prayer are thought to be beneficial for stress reduction and in times when it is difficult to let go and move on in life. Prayer can help you accept the things you can't change and the difficulties you're facing as God's will. It promotes mental and physical well-being and aids in the attainment of peace of mind.

18. Make a list of your achievements

When it is difficult to let go and your self-esteem is low, making a list of your accomplishments can help to boost your self-esteem. When you take the time to look at yourself in a positive light, make a list of your accomplishments, and add to it on a regular basis, even the small things that you do, you make room for self-satisfaction.

19. Imagine yourself as powerful

Visualization is another effective psych tool for increasing self-confidence and self-healing. Visualizing yourself as an empowered person is beneficial in situations where you find it difficult to let go, and it will aid in improving your sense of self-worth and relieving stress.

20. Explore the larger world

When it is difficult to let go of your past experiences, looking around you and paying attention to the details in your surroundings can help you see that the world has a lot more to offer than that unhappy experience. You can accomplish this by incorporating activities into your daily routine that will allow you to see a larger world, such as exploring streets you have never visited before, closing your eyes and listening to your surroundings, taking different routes to and from work, and so on.

21. Concentrate on the present

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift from God, which is why we call it the present,” says a famous quote. So, rather than lamenting the past or worrying about the future, live in the present moment and enjoy it. “Yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision,” says Kalidasa. But a well-lived today turns every yesterday into a happy dream and every tomorrow into a vision of hope.” Choosing to live in the past deprives you of the pleasures of today. As a result, consider each day to be full of limitless possibilities and fully appreciate the opportunities that come your way.
