Preserve Memories (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

At the end of the day, your life is defined by your experiences. You will have good and bad experiences, but you are the sum of what you have done and learned. That means it's critical to keep those memories close at hand so you can savor them. What are the best methods for preserving memories? Let's take a closer look.

1. Be inventive!

People have come up with all kinds of crazy ideas to preserve memories. Some people have favorite quotes painted on their walls, while others have significant memories written on dinner plates (literally). You can have your children's crayon drawings stamped in silver and turned into jewelry, or you can commission an artist to draw amusing caricature drawings. When done poorly, any of these ideas is kind of lame, but when done well and combined with a few others, you'll have a small stash of fun memories that can also double as art or jewelry.

2. Make your own website to store your memories

Creating a website dedicated to your memories is the ultimate way to keep them alive. You can make a website, write down stories, upload photos and videos, easily share with everyone, and do pretty much anything else you want. That is the liberation that comes with having a website. You might want to try Squarespace to build your own website because it's simple to use and has a ton of cool templates to choose from! Memories are valuable. They remind us of who we are, who we were, and all the wonderful things we have accomplished. Everyone should investigate the possibility of immortalizing them.

3. Tell a story!

The practice of telling stories to remember things is as old as history itself. For generations, village elders told stories to keep a tribe's history alive, and it was the only way they could until writing was invented. This is something that still happens today. The television show How I Met Your Mother depicted a father telling his children about his life. We're not suggesting that you speak in Bob Saget's voice for the next nine years, but telling a story every now and then is a good way to keep memories alive.

4. Make a few vacation jars

This is a creative idea that can also be used as a decoration. Assume you're going camping. Gather some pine needles, a pine cone, a good photograph, and other small forest or camping items and place them in a jar. With a little time and glue, you can make a piece of art that not only helps keep memories alive, but also looks great on a shelf.

5. Purchase an external hard drive

This is probably the least creative way to preserve your memories for all time, but that doesn't mean it's ineffective. External hard drives are inexpensive, and if you buy a good brand, they will last a very long time. They're simple to keep, and they'll be there if your computer crashes or the internet goes down for good tomorrow. Don't make it the only location for your photos, but anyone who wants to keep their memories safe should invest in an external hard drive. They're even simple to use!

6. Record them in a book or journal

If telling stories isn't your thing, try writing them down. I can't tell you how many events in history we only know about because some random person decided to write them down. Writing it down and putting it in a book or journal allows you to relive those memories as you write them, and then again if you ever read them. You can also pass the book down to your children or grandchildren to show them all the fun things you did.

7. Make use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and Google+

One of the most common methods of storing photos is through social media. You can organize them in albums, share them with friends, and have them available whenever you need them. Tumblr and Google+, for example, allow you to upload images of virtually any size. But keep in mind that if your photos are too large, Instagram and Facebook will scale them down. Everyone is on social media, which is where the majority of the world's online population is. That means it's a good place to keep your memories because you can share them with your friends.

8. Go look for the things you had as a child

There were things we liked when we were younger. It could be old video games, a favorite blanket or stuffed animal, or another toy. Thanks to auction sites like eBay, it's easier than ever to unearth those old items and reclaim them. Then you always have your childhood memories with you whenever you want them.

9. Online storage

It's 2014, which means that more and more people are storing their data in the cloud. Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, and other services exist solely to store your belongings. All services provide at least a small amount of free storage for you to experiment with to see if you like it. You can create photo albums by uploading photos and videos into folders and renaming them. That way, they're safe in the cloud and well-organized! You can also send them to friends and attach them to emails whenever you want.

10. Create your own home videos

We're not talking about filming your family with a camcorder, but rather about making a video out of things you already have. You can include photos, video clips, and other special moments in your own video by using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas Pro, or Final Cut Pro. You can even add music to the video. You can either save the video to your computer (or use #1, #7, or #3 on this list) or burn it to DVD and give it to your family. YouTube is also a great place to store your own videos. If you're not into that sort of thing, there are services that will do it for you.
