Strive for Excellence (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

Most of us are attempting to juggle everything in life: career, work, family, and self-care. We believe that in order to be our best selves, we must “make the most of it” and be proactive in all aspects of our lives.

Although this article is about excellence, you may be surprised that I am not urging you to excel in every aspect of your life. Instead, I would like to encourage you to excel in areas where you truly can make a difference, so that when you pass on, you will have left a better world for those who come after you.

This is an invitation to find your voice and make a difference in the world; an invitation to go above and beyond the norm and strive for higher levels of excellence; an invitation to tap into your talents more deeply than ever before and transform yourself into a shining powerhouse. It is time to live your life's purpose and share your one-of-a-kind, beautiful gifts with all other beings.

Excellence is, in essence, the polar opposite of perfectionism. Perfectionism is losing your true self in the demands of society and attempting to emulate someone who is not you and who you will never be. Excellence, on the other hand, is becoming the center of your own universe and, from there, shining your light into the world through your unique talents.

Living an exceptional life requires effort, but it is also rewarding and provides you with energy to continue your work. Here are 20 ideas for striving for excellence that you can put into action:

1. Determine Your Values

To make the best decisions in your life, you must first understand what truly matters to you.

Keep a list of your core values and write down your observations about how you and others live by these values. Revisit your list on a regular basis to keep your energy focused on what is most important to you in life.

2. Take a Stand for a Cause

Sometimes we hear something in the news that seems to tug at a deep inside of us, as if the cause is truly worth fighting for.

Make your voice heard and get involved. Find what truly makes you tick and throw your weight into the battle, whether it's protecting animal rights, fighting street harassment, or stopping the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

3. Genuinely Listen

Listen to others' stories to connect with them. Hold on to your advice and similar experiences while delving deeper into the experience the other person is sharing with you, sensing his or her emotions and reactions. You will learn more about other people's needs and values this way.

4. Be Aware of Your Emotions

Stop burying your emotions beneath a blanket and putting on a happy-neutral mask all the time. Learn from children who are sad, happy, excited, and tired in less than an hour. This Is Why Negative Emotions Aren't All That Worrying (And How to Handle Them).

Feel what is going on inside of you and simply accept it

5. Become a Cycle

The rhythm of our planet and our lives is ebbing and flowing, turning in cycles and circles.

Society, on the other hand, appears to believe that life is a ladder that we must climb step by step. Instead of always trying to go up, up, up, learn to live with the moon's and seasons' cycles, and feel the waxing and waning energies in yourself.

6th. Mediate

Meditation is the most powerful personal development tool available, so practice it on a daily basis. When things get hectic and the going gets tough, cling to your meditation practice: those are the times when you'll need it the most.

7. Keep a journal

So write down your thoughts on a piece of paper or on your computer screen, and use your journal as a place to reflect on your day, your progress in life, and any observations from the day that need to leave your mind so that you can relax.

8. Identify Your Strict Beliefs

What is it that is preventing you from moving forward? What cultural conditioning is preventing you from standing out? Do you believe you can't do it because you're too old, haven't gone to college, or are a woman?

9. Exercise Gratitude

Learn to be grateful for any and all positive experiences that come your way on any given day. Every day, make a list of ten things for which you are grateful. When you're having a bad day, be grateful for your health, your life, your pet… anything that can give you a little spark.

10. smile

A smile can brighten both your face and the heart of another person. Smiling has numerous advantages. Unfortunately, nowadays, smiles can be misinterpreted as an attempt to seduce, naivety, or even dumbness.

Return smiling to its rightful place as an expression of joy and positive feelings, as well as a means of connecting with other people.

11. Demonstrate Compassion

Stop passing judgment on others when they make mistakes or hurt you. Instead, put yourself in their shoes and think to yourself, “There I go, being rude/inattentive/etc.” By thinking along these lines, you realize how similar all humans are; how we all have flaws and bad moments that can be forgiven.

12. Take Notes from Your Dreams

Then, begin analyzing the symbols that appear in your dreams and exploring your subconscious. I don't believe in dream symbol lists that you can find online—I believe that each person's subconsciousness makes different connections between our experiences, bringing forth these symbols from a different background in each individual.

13. Teach Make use of your special talent to instruct others

Spend time with people who are attempting to learn your language, share a skill that you have mastered, organize a workshop at work about a new software package, or volunteer at a local school—the possibilities for teaching are as varied as the diversity of talents among us all.

14. Confront Your Demons

What happened in your past that left a sour taste in your mouth? Fasten your seat belt and face your demons when you feel the time is right. Only by addressing the darker aspects of yourself will you be able to heal your past and move more freely into your future.

15. Begin a Difficult Task

When a difficult task is assigned, take a step forward. Lean into the opportunity, choose the spotlight, be realistic, and discuss your plans with your mentor or coach. Ask for advice and assistance from others, and don't be too hard on yourself if you make a mistake.

16. Appreciate Your Body

Your body is stunning regardless of size, shape, or medical condition. Celebrate your body by providing it with nutritious foods, time to exercise (just like taking your dog for a walk) and additional care, such as massages and sauna visits.

17. Value Your Intellect

Determine the limits of your knowledge and proceed from there. Take an online course, join a discussion group, solve difficult puzzles—anything that stimulates your mind and feels like a challenge is a good way to honor your brain.

18. Forgiveness

Forgive yourself, your loved ones, and everyone else for past transgressions. Meditation on forgiveness and loving-kindness is a very powerful way of letting go of grudges and negative feelings.

19. Put your attention on being rather than having

Consumerism is the lifeblood of our economy, but as resources become scarcer, it is time to define ourselves based on who we are rather than what we have.

20. Every day, ask yourself, “Did I give the world the best of myself?”

Stand in front of the mirror and ask yourself, “Did I give the world the best of myself today?”

If you answered yes, think about what motivated you and how you felt at the end of the day. If the answer is “no,” don't berate yourself; instead, consider what happened today that threw you off balance.
