So you're not married? Whether you recently ended a relationship or have been single for a long time, there are benefits and drawbacks to being single. But, no matter how you feel about your single status, one thing is certain: you are free. And, if you're like most people, it means you'll find love again one day. So, while you're on your way, here are ten things you should do when you're single.
1. Commit to being single for three months
This is primarily for newly single people, but take your time. If you've recently ended a relationship, learn to enjoy life on your own. Find out what makes you happy, do things you've always wanted to do, and spend time away from your significant other. If you want to date, do so in a casual manner. Learn what you like and dislike, and set a strict deadline for yourself to remain single. When you are content with being single, you are less likely to enter a relationship for the wrong reasons.

2. Go on a vacation with your best friend
Reestablish contact with old friends. Visit your hometown, visit a new city with old friends, or go to the beach with your best friend for a long weekend. Spend time doing what you enjoy with the people who know you best.
3. Go on a weekend getaway with a married couple
Find some friends your age who have a good relationship and hang out with them. Examine what they do well and how they differ from you. It's easy to romanticize relationships and focus solely on the honeymoon stage, but take the time to consider what constitutes a true, long-term commitment.
4. Traveling. Travel to a foreign country on your own
Take a risk. Being in a relationship can be wonderful, but planning a major trip can be a nightmare. Do it while you're still single! Travel through Europe, Central America, Australia, or Egypt to see the pyramids. It will feel liberating and adventurous to you: a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And you'll have fantastic, interesting stories to tell on your first date.
5. Be choosy. Don't fall too quickly
You must learn to say no. It's far too easy to jump right back into a relationship if you've recently ended one, or to act too quickly at the first sign of sparks if you've been single for a long time. Do not attempt it! Take advantage of the opportunity to meet someone who truly complements you, with whom you have a strong connection, and who you find attractive.
6. Discover yourself
Understanding what you like and what makes you happy is the quickest way to a happy, healthy relationship. While you're single, take the time to discover yourself. Learn what you enjoy, identify your goals and ambitions, and make a list of your top priorities. Make sure that any future relationships allow you to be yourself while also allowing you to achieve your goals. There will always be give and take, but make sure you know where to draw the line.
7. Reconnect with old acquaintances
Friendships can suffer as a result of relationships, especially difficult ones. While you're single, reconnect with old friends and form meaningful, long-lasting bonds that will last no matter what your relationship status is. Don't rely on friends to fill the void left by a broken relationship; instead, find ways to ensure that your friends and family can remain a part of any new relationship.
8. Get into shape
You want to look and feel your best when you're single. Get in shape by going to the gym! You'll feel better, have more confidence, and get your next relationship off to a good start. Find out how to get in shape in unusual ways. Play tennis, golf, basketball, and other sports. You might run into someone who shares your interests.
9. Make an effort to meet new people
Every day, meet new people or learn more about the people you already know. When you don't have that special someone in your life, it's easy to sulk and feel isolated. Don't be afraid of online dating, and use all of the tools at your disposal to meet people on your terms. However, don't stop there. Talking to people at work, the store, the gym, and other places is a great way to stay social without feeling rushed. It's not just about meeting new people; it's also an opportunity to become a more social and engaging person.
10. Have fun with it
Being single can be enjoyable. Consider it a challenge. Discover more about yourself. Take risks. Take vacations. Being single doesn't have to be lonely or full of late nights at the bars. It's an opportunity to figure out what you like, learn more about others, and take your time finding the person of your dreams. So have fun with it.
