One of the most difficult things we as intelligent humans can go through is falling out of love. When we lose someone we thought we'd love forever, it's difficult to imagine ever feeling love again. It is critical to understand that just because we may never regain the feelings we once had does not mean we will never regain the ability to love in some capacity. While your life will never be the same after you've broken up with someone, that doesn't mean it will always be worse.
When you are ready to move forward, love will return
Moving on with your life is probably the most difficult thing to do after losing someone you love. You'll feel as if the rug has been pulled out from under you and will struggle to get back on your feet. But sitting around and daydreaming about “what could have been” won't get you anywhere. It is critical that you get up, dust yourself off, and move on with your life, no matter how difficult it may be.

Just because a relationship ends doesn't mean it was a total failure. No matter how traumatic your past experiences were, there are always lessons to be learned. In fact, we should extract as many lessons as possible from these traumatic experiences in order to make them useful in some way. If you don't learn anything from the end of a previous relationship, you'll continue to make the same mistakes later in life.
When you change your expectations, love will return
I'm sure you already know this, but no relationship you have in the future will be identical to the one you just ended. Even if you reconcile with the same person, things will have changed and your relationship will be altered. This isn't always a bad thing.
Consider what you expected from your previous relationship, as well as what your partner anticipated. Perhaps your expectations of each other were a major factor in your breakup. Perhaps one of you had unrealistic expectations, while the other put in insufficient effort. Maybe you thought everything would always work out. Regrettably, this was not the case.
Learn from your previous love experiences once more. Perhaps your ex-partner did not show you the love you expected. Perhaps the person you meet next will. Maybe you'll never feel the same way you did in your previous relationship. Perhaps you will. Just don't expect it because you'll spend all of your time comparing potential future relationships to your previous one, which will ensure you never feel love again.
When you rediscover your passion for life, love will return.
Being in love is wonderful, but it is only one of literally millions of possible experiences in life. If you've recently had your heart broken, it can be difficult to see everything else in front of you, but trust me: it's there.
Instead of spending all of your time lamenting the way things used to be, make your own memories. Make plans to do some of the things you've always wanted to do. Travel. Learn how to make a new recipe. Pay a visit to a museum. Whatever comes to mind, don't waste time wishing you could do it with the person you used to love; just do it.
As I previously stated, you will never meet someone who is exactly like your former love, but that is fine. It would be a bad idea if you did. However, as you begin to rediscover your passion for other aspects of life, you will put yourself in a position to meet others who share your interests. Doing what you enjoy allows you to meet people who may become new friends, but you may also meet someone who completely transforms your life.
When you don't need love to survive, it will return
I don't want to say that you get “used to” being in love because when you're truly in love, you cherish every moment you spend with your significant other. However, after being with someone for a long time, it's easy to forget what life was like before you met them. One of the most difficult aspects of ending a relationship is reclaiming your identity as an individual. But it must be done if you are to move on with your life.
After a breakup, you should not only actively reclaim your passion for life, but you should also focus on simply living. After a breakup, many people seek love from anyone they can find because they are afraid they will not be able to make it on their own. Don't do it. It is not only unjust to the other person, but it is also unjust to yourself.
Have faith in your ability to function as an individual. If you need to prove it to yourself in some way, go ahead and do it. Before you look for love again, reclaim your identity. Start with yourself if you're going to look for it anywhere.
