What to Do When You Hit Rock Bottom (The Ultimate Guide + Image Quotes)

“Never be afraid to crumble. It provides an opportunity to rebuild yourself in the manner in which you wished you had been all along” – Rae Smith.

A person who never stumbles in life is extremely fortunate and extremely rare. Life can be monotonous with little variation, and many of us become accustomed to it. But it's the few times we hit those massive, dramatic roadblocks – whether it's health problems, financial difficulties, or the loss of a loved one – that really test us mentally, emotionally, and physically.

These circumstances can make us feel dark, hopeless, and stuck, as if we've reached rock bottom. But don't worry, we can resurrect ourselves and rejoice once more as a brighter, better person. Here are some pointers to help you get there.

1. Allow yourself to feel

When we are feeling down, we often feel the need to ‘distract ourselves' or ‘get on with things,' but what we really need is to allow emotions to pass through us in order to process them effectively. It is critical to be able to identify our emotions, whether they are anger, frustration, grief, or disappointment, in order to let them go. We can better understand ourselves and deal with similar situations in the future if we release them.

2. Take some time to think about it

Reflection is, indeed, the art of all change. Allowing yourself time to process what the situation means to you, how it has affected you, and, if applicable, how you could have handled it better will help to ease your mind and lighten your heart. Lessons learned during difficult times are the most powerful and long-lasting.

3. Believe in yourself

Sometimes just believing that good will come after bad is enough to alleviate distress. Believing in something greater than ourselves – God, fate, or destiny – will allow us to surrender to the situation and work through it diligently.

4. Practice self-compassion

We can only learn to pick ourselves up by loving ourselves. Use your failure as an opportunity to soften and care for yourself. Take baths, go for walks, and discover the world. You will discover that over time, you will have developed the emotional capacity to uplift yourself regardless of the circumstances.

5. Find a creative outlet

Make art, write poetry, or compose music. Creativity aids in the transformation of negative emotions into positive emotions and destructive emotions into joy.

6. Spend time outside in nature

Spending time in nature allows us to reconnect with our purity and true essence. Take in the beauty around you and appreciate the fact that it is still there. Take a walk to a pool of water and nourish yourself in the sight; you'll notice that you've instilled calmness within yourself and have clarity of thought that didn't previously exist.

7. Listen to music

Much music is written with genuine passion and emotion. Listening to a variety of music inspires us, stimulates our creativity, and connects us across time and space with those who have been inspired to create.

8. Experiment with new things

Experiment with new hobbies, develop new interests, and meet new people. Read. A great deal. Exposing yourself to different points of view will help you discover yourself, and keep in mind that every new thing you encounter has the potential to change your life.

9. Surround yourself with like-minded people

Spend time with people who make you feel good. In difficult times, words of encouragement and self-belief from trusted friends are essential. Avoid anyone who is negative or emotionally involved with your situation for the time being – this will prevent you from taking the necessary break to process things and develop yourself.

10. Have faith in miracles

Believe that incredible things can happen. Believe in the possibility of miracles. Break free from any internal monologue that tells you things will never improve. Recognize that the world is an enthralling place. Things can happen faster than you think if you believe they can.
